company paper looks set to end the year with a bang. yeah, that's the sound of a gunshot, blowing my head off. why study actually, the rotten post-paper feeling will come anyway. maisie's last min tutorial this morning gave me an ominous wake up call; 4 days to go and the mind draws a blank. 4 days sounds long, but i'm losing steam. is there a fuel kiosk anywhere down the road? there seems to be a long distance to go.
life has been quite chthonic of late (stop it stop it, exam's over already and i still feel a wry sense of cynicism at the point of the question); wake up, go school, (try to) mug, dinner, doze off as i try to mug again at home, sleep, wake up. nothing changes around here, but time is not an envelope cos it sure is slipping away from me fast! one week more folks! u can survive till then i'm sure.
what is einstein's favourite swimming style?
bahh... CLT exam in less than a day. so many amorphous concepts floating around (the hindu tradition floats too! that much i know). just a sense of apathetic weariness; i want the whole damn exam period to be over but at the same time, i'm rather worried that it's gonna screw up. again. saturday afternoon come quick!
5 days to the first paper. 15 days to a happy december. mug on! you know, i was thinking that i could submit a brilliant idea to the LTA (that's the land transport authority, not the dratted property statute!) to help ease the crunch on the expressways at peak hours. we could have "car trucks"! these would be long trailer-like vehicles with about 3 or 4 levels of racks, modelled after the trailers that transport new cars. ppl would drive onto them at the start of the expressway and let the truck take them thru the expressway. it's kinda like a bus service for cars and it could potentially improve traffic flow by 200%! really, think about it, a truck might occupy the length of about 3 cars, but each truck is stacked with 9 cars. we can't build 3 levels of the CTE, but we'll make use of the upper stratum of it since that space belongs to the govt anyway; same result! at the desired exit, the trucks unload the happy drivers (who cld have used the time to nap or read or make sweet l*ve [added incentive for the gahmen!]) and they all drive off to their respective estates and lorongs. brilliant la... pets myself on the back. now, i shd start thinking more about the OTHER type of LTA. mutters. if this idea earns me a fortune i can just quit school now.
and something else that's funny that khel and i heard on radio:
when we heard this advert promoting a relationship workshop of sorts, mr. xu burst into laughter and seemed to greatly appreciate the genius of the male. i stared daggers at him and issued a stern warning:
alright, i shall attempt to post a new entry after monday's horrific post vanishing horror.
went to watch the prestige on wednesday. it was such a dark, ominous movie. right from the start, i had a knot in my stomach cos i hate situations that make me brace in fear/ anticipation of sth that might go boo when i least expect it. far from the usual family friendly, wow inducing magic show u might expect, the movie was sinister and convoluted. brilliant plot, certainly, and worth a watch, but don't expect to sit back and relax. (yes, that means you huiying, go watch it with your bolsterboy!). i'm gonna be witnessing for aloysius later this afternoon, and hopefully, dinner with the others will be a good round up to the week.
hindu law is most intriguing. heaven forbid, but i find the concept of kharma and reincarnation very appealing. maybe i've been watching too many fantasy novels/ tv dramas with convoluted plots involving the male lead pining for his lost lady love and meeting someone who looks just like her some years down the road in another continent. erhm, whatever, i'm seeing things in a blur this morning and like this, i shall talk too. it's all saints day today and i'll be ponning lect later to go to church, after which i shall visit our good old KR campus for good and cheap food. it's november, horrors, and exams are coming in less than a month. if i wasn't so busy trying to comprehend the tutorials as they come, i might have time to feel very afraid indeed.
oh, here's a spasticated lame joke from mag this morning:
Q: what is at the bottom of the ocean and is shivering?
the gentlemen chided my male friends for not treating me to ice cream. indeed! hear hear =p k**l was complaining that he has a secret tummy and one of the men informed us that "i used to be skinny, you know!" they were really warm and friendly and interested to chat so it was time for some law school gossip. these were people with connections/ the ones who holdeth the truth, so whatever rumours abt the faculty that i cld think of then, i merrily brought out. chop stamp plus guarantee now we have the truth. no more furtive hearsay. so... did u know that
- but there is indeed a bona fide ex law queen amongst them. she'll certainly advocate the notion that beauty queens are not all bimbos!
- legal theory tutor Y is...
blimey, i don't think we were sworn to any vow of secrecy, but i really shdn't publicise the whole chat log here lest i sabo them in some way. anyway, it's not half as funny when it's in text. for more fun facts and hilarious nuggets, ask the author for a more in depth account. haha, fantastic tutors we have; and year 2s, they think that we're a batch of good boys and girls. yay us! it's crim/sls tutor's birthday today, so happy birthday to him!
i'm ashamed of myself that i'm succumbing to "haze related ailments". the nose is runny and eyes are watery. liquid ought to come out from the skies, not from my organs! daryl and i were talking about what a good time it is to have barbeques now; just hang the meat out in the open and you get instant smoked beef, salmon, chicken... oooh, lame lame, yes i shudder as well.
mais*e ooi overused my name in tutorials today. she enlisted me to be her partner in a coffin making/ funeral (wtf!) enterprise to illustrate examples about shares, so back and forth it was my name my name my name. man, i've never heard it used in such rapid succession before, it probably hit about 50 times. this has to be the tutorial that i'm most involved in- and i didn't even have to do anything!
in a flash, it's thursday night again and that means that my work week is ovahhh! this week seemed like such a uphill struggle when i was thinking abt it on sunday evening, but somehow, it all worked out. totally blurry prop tutorial and having to pon class (it's a rarity for me lor!) aside, it all worked out and i am thankful.
trial advo today was entertaining again. 1.5 hours of word play and fact twisting with our tutor. my dearest laptop decided to throw a tantrum and for the whole of tuts, i had to deal with having my display screen reduced to less than the size of my hand. no i was not amused, especially after khel's laptop crashed out of the blue 2 days ago. as if on cue, the screen kindly stretched itself back to normal size at the end of class. wtf.
of late, i've been witnessing alot of incredible acts by boyfriends for their girls. ex lion king (who now looks rather guai) bought his lady a brand new handphone (one of the new models too mind u) and dined her in style in a cable car. mr body beautiful might look macho and cool, but he's not above wearing a tee with his girl's name emblazoned in large font on the front. who needs the romancing sg campaign anymore? but then again, sometimes it's the little acts and just being there that's enough to melt a girl into a bubbly puddle of honey.
crazy haze... crazzzzy haze today. for once, i understood what the hype over the haze problem was abt. there was the pungent smell of fumes in the air, and the world was sheathed in a greyish shroud. walking around town, the haze topic could be heard wafting out from conversations and the streets were eerily empty. smokey effects and deserted streets, really machiam orchard rd in the 4th dimension.
crashed siew men's og outing today and it was a very entertaining dinner with many many laughs:
|| barbequeue cook out session in rui's residence last week ||
thankfully i managed to finish the dratted property assignment in the last 3 days with a little help from my friends. welcome back to a new half sem of school; and ain't property lectures now such a blast. can't wait for the end of this week, when the company test is over and there are celebrations to be done.
lovely sunday and a week of holidays await. no, wait, who am i kidding, there're tests and assignments waiting in the wings. have fun studying, u lot... organise study groups, don't forget to go on dates and keep walter and sook yee company. friday's agm was rather successful i feel... whether the shareholders turned up for the food or otherwise, i'm glad that they came. agm became more of a inter year mixing session in the end. after that was alleybar session; i miss the days when there was an inexhaustible supply of chips to go with our drinks. anyway... van and adrienne want to head out this thursday night. anyone?
singapore idol finals are on tonight. not that i care since i haven't watched a single episode of that "karaoke warblers annonymous" show. i found it amusing, as i read the papers this morning, that someone actually wrote in to quibble on how the show shd actually be called "singaporean idol" instead of what it is now. such attention to detail to a programme with plummeting viewership. another ludicrous event was when the school admin spam mailed the entire student population, encouraging us to support mr. nus contender because... he's from nus. obviously, this stunt only reiterates the fact that this sham of a show is nothing abt talent but all abt connections and unquestioning friend bases. with all the revenue from the votes, who knows, maybe there'll be a season 3 invading an island near you.
had the honour of being the first honored guest to taste sheryl's cooking yesterday. it was her first time cooking by herself and since i have a strong stomach and the novelty was too great to resist, i gamely accepted her invitation. after a couple of hours waiting in the kitchen, beef stew was served. not bad at all; the sauce was tasty and the beef wasn't leather tough. for dessert, we attempted to make fondue. all was going well until we creatively decided to add milk to get milk choco fondue. but the moment the milk went in, the thick liquid began to curdle. arg dammit. fortunately, some water diluted the lump. marshmellows, biscuits, cake bits, fingers... we welcomed anything to take a dip. the cook-out was fun, but the honest and no holds barred conversation was the most memorable part of the day; i'll miss you much when u go back to the place of foggy grey skies, shloke!
just like the previous entry, all dark clouds are gone now. thank you and you for the concern. it's all good and a new day awaits...
now, if u're telling me that you don't know what nerds are, then u're a nerd. didn't have much of a childhood did you? i'm talking about the gawdy credit card sized box of neon colored pellets that come in 2 flavours. more than just a box of sweets; they're a priceless (alright, $1.40) gift for all. it's great for sharing, you can play kutikuti with it, stuff it up someone's nose... whatever. oh, best of all, it keeps bored law students awake. i used to be a huge fan; mixing the flavours and rationing out the pellets seemed like such sacred missions back then.
dammit i even joined the wacky world of wonka! don't laugh, between a walter and a wonka, i think i know what u'd choose too! totally wonky entry, i think i should extract some intelligence from walter now.
she didn't nag at me! nor start a "study more slack less" tirade! wowzerilies! must be because it's her birthday tmr; inauspicious to scold ppl or sth like that =) happy birthday my sweet mother! health and happiness wished unto you.
i know i'm super laggy, but i'm watching tris' 15 min of fame on google video only now, and chuckling silently to myself. hopefully ma doesn't walk on by again and start to enquire who the fine young man is. *nudge nudge tris* you do know who her favourite writer is after all. come to think of it, u'd be a great birthday present! now, would it be pink ribbons or purple lace for your wrapping?
only $20 for a night of good spirits. north ppl, you all should come cos it's organised by thomson cc, that's near our house! (see more here) tell me if u wanna join the tour!
guys should be more receptive towards their pet names,
cheers rang out throughout the whole MPA today when le*theng couldn't get her comp to start and cancelled the whole of trial advo lect. all hail the wonders of IT (failures). since there was suddenly time on our hands, khel tris and i went to coro for lunch. it's been 2 years since i've been fed by ke3 pa4 ji1 but everything seems the same... same old rundown shop + extension wing, same less than GEMS award worthy service, same fried, unhealthy food. but we had to spoil the nostalgic moment by suddenly starting to discuss whether the shop was a sole proprietorship or a partnership. omg... we're not normal human beings anymore!!!
had a pro bono mtg at 1.30 after lunch and island cremery. it was nice to see so many new faces and rather exciting to think of all the things we can do with all this new blood. slurp. company tuts are damn sian... the tg's girls were all silent while the guys ran the show. good luck to the ppl joining mallals... keep a good moot while preparing for ur moots =p sigh i know i'm damn irrelevant today.
heeeeeeeeeello... i'm back to clean up some of the cobwebs growing around here. sorry for the extended hiatus; camera battery problems, lack of a social life, stuff like that. anyway, 2 weeks of school have passed and year 2 is looking very much like the evil that the 1st year was. i DO NOT comprehendo company law and as compared to tort or crim, property cases just don't cut it as interesting. but out of school, it's good to see all the batchmates (and juniors) again and indulge in a little bitching, gossip or chatter here and there. after law camp, the social dynamics around here seem to have changed... lines are blurring and alot of the colors are blending together more. haha, so much love floating about.
it feels quite routine to go abt life in btc now too; the tiny canteen, the MPA seats that lean back so much that it's damn hard to take notes, our fellow school-mates (albeit the helmet and boots wearing types). i've been a lucky thing to never have had to scale the upslope on foot so far, kind ppl have been giving me lifts these 2 weeks. keep it up ying, rui, daryl, various circumstances; u're much loved =p yep, life is unfolding quite nicely overall and i am happy. here's to the future.
i'm getting bored of the new campus already. we've only got 1 block to play with, 1 pathetic cafeteria serving overpriced and substandard food and only 1 auditorium that all the years have to share and take shifts to use for lectures. but i'm glad that civilisation is rather nearby. go to island cremery and scan the photowall, we've got a photo pasted at conspicuous eye level! law school invades bukit timah...
going to dblo tonight, and quite a few ppl are going cos this is probably the last time that we'll be free-ish enough to afford a night out. tutorials start next week; company 1 property 5 anyone? ok, this is a most monotonous, boring post. i promise a load of pictures next time.
pictures from the past month. here here!!
happy national day! for the political cynics out there, national day not = p*a*p's day of triumph, so don't scoff at the festivities. ludicrous as kiddies look when decked out in red+white, at least they're able to have fun unadulterated by cynicism. just be happy that it's the holidays, enjoy the fireworks.
i went to catch the fireworks at marina bay last night because i figured that the local team doing the show wld try their darnest to outdo the foreigners. didn't quite get an ideal spot (i was standing at the fullerton hotel roadside), but the display was nonetheless very dazzling and pretty.
we come in peace but can only sit, wait and wonder about our fates. are you just a sitting duck?
it's times like this when you wanna scream but you can't even do that.
one week from now we shall all be happy biatches. for now, it's property law 101; hopefully leases and licenses won't be the star of the show. and if HW Tang decides to test us on his most inspiring article, i shall be thus traduced. going to support tris and kong at the word of mouth competition later. way to go, them! semifinalists in a national talk cock championship... i kid u not, that's really what the competition is about. trust the gahmen to come up with such fantastic competitions =)
a: stroke of a genius

(i'm sorry! don't stone me... these pathetic excuses for jokes do inadvertently slip into ur head when u're bored)
because we wanted to catapult ourselves to instant ice cream shop wall fame/ infamy.

winston man is such a gentleman... i emailed him about CSS retreat and this is what he replies within an hour
"Dear Pet,
Quite a few of us wanna go =) I'll keep you posted!"
wuuurrrddd?? man! u've known me for 1.5 years now and u dear pet me? haha. for some reason i is finding this very funny now, maybe it's the warped sense of humour that ppl get when a certain E phenomenon comes around. hohoho... he's the man; so polite, so genial, take one home to your mummy today!
guy: surprise! happy birthday!
girl: oooh a gift! what did u get me? is it a handbag... a necklace...a... HURHH! CLEANSER??
guy (jubilant): don't you like it? you told me to remind u to buy cleanser, so SURPRISE!
"don't u dare, you... don't u dare!"
yes guys, no cleanser for the girlfriends! or u shall be swept clean from her life. be a dear, don't get caught in the headlights (oooh highly irrelevant statements! exam syndrome) =)

trial advo's over! but that means that the most fun module is done with and it's only the dry, tedious ones left to battle. how to finish studying in time? and given my discipline levels, i think i shd just be content with my humdrum grades and stay on this island in year 3. trials were alright i think, or maybe my tutor's just being too nice to give his true scathing comments. rambled through the 1.5 hours, yue-en's phone rang midway thru his opening statement, he sang "when a man loves a woman" to the judge and ven was on a roll being the bastardy simon =p
flying fuck i am freaking pissed. i was gonna post the FIFTY FOUR FARKING questions from tris and the damnnnn connection was not on and its all GONEEEEE!!!!!

visits to the nearby ice cream parlour are happy occasions, a visit there after a mind numbing 2.5 hours of trial advo is a delight, having 3 of your professors chatting and sharing school gossip with you over ice cream is like rainbow sprinkles on a megalopulous scoop of rich chocolate ice cream. so the stage was set at abt 9.30pm today; myself and co. went for some ice cream after dinner. lo and behold who wld we see at the table next to us but a certain torts tutor with a certain sls/crim tutor and another sls lecturer! we were blind bats, surely, because we really did not register their presence initially when we dumped ourselves into the seats. they had to say hello first!
- no, contracts tutor X was not law queen in her day after all. in fact, she's not even from singapore. spread anymore of these flighty rumours and she'll pierce u with an icy stare.
on sunday, the girls went out on a picnic to celebrate adrienne+ alison+ xiaoxuan's (absent) birthdays // hello, we're going to have a picnic // setting up the floor for our meal // the beautifully landscaped botanic gardens // ying and i after hectic shopping for their birthday gifts //

stomach flu is no fun. got literally bedridden for 3 days over the mid sem break last week because of it. there was no point eating cos everything wld come out (in both directions) within an hour and besides, i had no energy nor appetite to eat at all. breakfast on thursday, the worst day, was like... barley for breakfast, tao huay for lunch and some soup and fishballs for dinner, all of which didn't stick around for long. damn la... i'm sick like... once a year and this is the most serious case ever in my life i think. take care of ur health, i wldn't wish this on anyone's enemies.

mum: "who taught you this thing?"
me: "erh... myself", (yeah, thanks to many hours of non-studying) "it's a standard game on computers..."
mum: "oh" goes off to sleep
this was us in september of 2005. do u remember yourself then? to those who've been with me since those times, and to those who've joined the path subsequently, thank you for the friendships.
good luck to my mooting friends going for the kill tonight, be calm and do yourselves justice.
here's my weekly trial advo session update. us girls have armed ourselves with metres of sour candy tapes, and mo far kors to get thru the Q & A session. newae, who's interested in a night bonding session?! daryl you and i (hahah that sounds strange, you and i) wanna go for a "singapore urban legend night tour" on the 14th of oct, saturday. it'll brings us to

isn't clt a pain in the behind. i'm sitting smack in the center of the MPA, directly in front of the lecturer and i know he can see me... (he claims that he can see everything) so i'm making it a point to look up at him with a dead serious/bored face, holding fast to the faith that he wun call on me that way.

on another note, the new campus is a horror!
1) the climb uphill will be madness. it's a damn long way up and if i'm late for class, the ascent will seem twice as high.
2) the whole place is a mess of rocks and rubble. the rooms are still undone and majority of the area is still boarded up. how do the powers-that-be propose we study in these conditions? create little tables with bricks lying around and trace out words on the dusty floors?
3) guys, be warned that when u use the urinals in the toilet next to seminar room 2-3... we can seeeee you!!!
these gripes aside, the facilities and design do look promising. plus, we're now so near to town and not stranded in ulu vista kent ridge anymore. oh well, but now marks the end of our mega 3 month holiday...
